The activity of the entire counseling team (school psychologist, school counselor, prevention specialist), in cooperation with the Pedagogical-Psychological Counseling Center for Prague 4, ensures an effective support system for the educational process. The school creates a trustworthy and safe environment that aids in the development of the student's personality. Purposeful support for students begins at the very start of their education. Increased attention is paid to the adaptation of first-year students. To remove barriers in newly formed class groups, create positive relationships, and monitor potential risks, a consistently evaluated adaptation course is used, followed by further activities with the school psychologist aimed at setting appropriate learning strategies.
In cooperation with class teachers and other educators, the school succeeds in creating conditions for the education of students with special educational needs (e.g., through consistent evaluation of their studies, a control system, observation activities, or the use of individual education plans).
The most important focus of the counseling team is centered on individual care for students (managing frustration, individual development of the student's personality during the educational process, personal problems, use of free time, psychological and social maturation, and student instability leading to potentially difficult situations). Alongside individual support, the counseling team works with class groups. Prevention of socially pathological phenomena is also a key component. By involving students in extracurricular activities, their willpower and character traits are strengthened.
Support is also provided to parents and individual teachers. The school focuses on working with class teachers.
Great attention is paid to the prevention of school failure and insufficient academic results. Their precise evaluation in connection with the results of the talent exam is essential, especially for first-year students, where directing students toward a more suitable type of secondary school may appear desirable. Prevention of academic failure is also ensured through a targeted individual approach (e.g., for students with temporary health disadvantages). Students make use of the established consultation hours provided by individual teachers. Students also utilize consultations with the school psychologist. Consultations can be booked via email (pucherovah@skolamichael.cz), or in person.
The school counselor also provides career guidance.
